Keith's Gibsons
Permalink

Hello everybody,
I was just wondering about Keith's Gibson guitars. To my opinion, he never used anything but Les Pauls and Hollowbodies. I'd like to know if you had news about his cream Les Paul Special (two p90 pickups; single cutaway, that means not "Dice" but the other one).
Here's a quick list of Gibson to make your guitar page complete; dear Lena :
-Les Paul Standard 58', cherry sunburst, 2 pickups with bigsby tremolo, then sold to Mick Taylor, can be seen on early appearances (64-65).
-Les Paul Custom, 2 pickups, ebony, can be seen from 67 (Between the Buttons) to 70.
-Les Paul "Black Beauty", 3 pickups, used for both open G/standard tuning can be seen in 68-70 (R'n'R Circus, American and European tour 69 and 70).
-Les Paul Standard (another one ???) late fifties, honeyburst, 2 pickups, used during "Exile" recording sessions in Los Angeles, 72.
-Les Paul Special Firebrand, cream, 2 P90 pickups, bought in the late 70' used during 81' world tour.
-Les Paul Junior of the late fifties, TV yellow, single cutaway, 1 P90 pickup, can be seen nowadays.
-Les Paul Junior "Dice", TV yellow, double cutaway, 1 P90 pickup, can be seen nowadays.
-Les Paul Custom, made specially for him, ebony with 1 humbucker pickup in treble position, can be seen during Winos's tour 88-89 and then early 90's.
-ES-330 (hollowbody), aged sunburst, 2 pickups, used for both open G/standard tunings in 68 (Beggars' Banquet sessions) and 69 tour (Hyde Park for example).
-ES-345, brown lacquer, 2 pickups, can be seen in 70 (Muscle Shoals and Live concerts) and then in Nellcote.
-ES-355, ebony, 2 pickups with Bigsby tremolo, can be seen nowadays.
-ES-355, cherry, 2 pickups with Bigsby tremolo, can be seen nowadays.

All Right, see you then....

Thank you very much. I'll add your info (with your credit) to the guitar page asap. I am working on tech set up for the Licks Tour and had hoped to interview Pierre de Beauport for Stones Planet this issue, but so far have had no luck.

Hello again...

I'd like to complete the previous list with further investigation. Keef has got so many guitars, its almost impossible to get to the real point, but i've seen gorgeous guitars in his hands...

Gibson list (II)

-Les Paul/SG Custom, made in the early sixties (61-62), cream with 3 pickups and a "maestro-lyre" tremolo (played live on "Midnight Rambler" 72-73)

-Flying V, probably late '50, korina wood finish, 2 pickups, used for the Hyde Park concert ('69) and then seen in Nellcote...

-ES-175, white, 2 pickups, jazz guitar used in the "Undercover" clips

-SG Standard from the '60, black, 2 pickups, used in Muscle Shoals ('70) especially for the studio take of "Brown Sugar"

And he had other ones, next time I'll focalize on his acoustic guitars or maybe on his less-known Fenders ...
